Son of Chasing Pictures

Brandon is right. Jason is wrong. It's 2026 and no, we do NOT all get along! Except maybe we do have a good time arguing with one another!

Can I get total agreement on one thing?

The "social" (code word for corporate commercial algorithmic) internet sites suck. They deceived us all with a bait and switch, offering something more personal and instead finding ways to monetize our contributions and sell packaged products back to us in exchange for our time and attention.

The internet absolutely peaked with blogs. Nothing new on the web has done anything better than personal blogs did.

So, here I am.

My original CR5FC blog started in 2008. 18 years ago. My original film blog is old enough to legally buy cigarettes and drive a car.

I still love the idea of blogging, but I hate Google as much as I hate any other Big Tech Overlords, so I won't be using Blogger/Blogspot anymore.

I poked around, looking at a lot of different blog services. I'm most impressed by this one, Mataroa. I love its commitment to minimalism and the written word. No fluff. I love its commitment to being ad-free and respecting privacy. I love its commitment to open source culture and its commitment to transparency in its operations. I value honesty and Mataroa values honesty. I think I've found a new film blog home here.

There have been past attempts to resurrect Film Club. There have been brief successes. What will this be? I don't know. But I'm here to find out.

Right now, after a day of messaging with the old crew, I'm prepared to rise to the old challenge. Write at least one sentence about everything I watch? One sentence. I can do that. Here I am.
